Frequently Asked Questions
What is Purna Yoga?
“Purna” means “complete” in Sanskirt. Purna Yoga addresses the needs of the body, mind, spirit, emotions and psyche in order to increase overall health and well-being. The lineage of Purna Yoga is based on:
- the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother
- the Vedas
- Patanjali
- B.K.S. Iyengar
- the systems of Ayurvedic, Chinese and Western nutrition
and synthesized by the personal experience of Aadil Palkhivala and Mirra, the founders of Purna Yoga. For more information please visit the Purna Yoga website.
Should I eat before class?
No. It is best to allow 1 to 2 hours between completing a meal and beginning a Yoga class.
Should I bring water to class?
You are welcome to bring a water bottle to class, but no food or drink are permitted in the practice space. Your bottle will need to be kept with your personal belongings.
Why must I bring my own mat?
It is our experience that individually owned mats are cleaner and more hygienic than shared mats. Also, if you own a mat you’re more likely to use it –- in and out of the studio!
How do I know which class to attend?
If you are unsure which class is appropriate for you, contact us! We are more than happy to help you find the right fit.
What should I wear?
Please wear comfortable clothing in which you can easily move. For your safety, do not wear black -– it impedes your teacher's ability to see your body alignment. You’ll want a snug shirt or one which is long enough to tuck in. Please arrive with clean feet as we practice barefoot.
What if I want to try a class?
We believe that it takes more than one class to discern whether Purna Yoga classes at Maple Leaf Community Yoga are right for you. To facilitate this we offer a New Student Special which you can use to try different days, times, teachers and class levels!
How do I register?
If you are a new student, please visit our New Student page for all the details on how to join this diverse, inspiring and growing community.
